Ndume Urges Tinubu to Fund Military Directly After Approving Salary Increase

Ndume Urges Tinubu to Fund Military Directly After Approving Salary Increase

Senator Ali Ndume has praised President Bola Tinubu’s approval of salary increases for about 250,000 Armed Forces personnel, saying the move could improve troop morale amid the fight against insurgency and banditry. The new pay structure, scheduled to begin next month, raises military salaries by between 30% and 80%. The annual Armed Forces wage bill is expected to increase from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. Junior personnel from private to staff sergeant are to receive the highest increase of 80%. Ndume said better pay must be backed by prompt access to arms, ammunition, training and other operational logistics. He also urged the Federal Government to place the defence budget on First Line Charge, arguing that direct statutory transfers would reduce bureaucratic delays affecting military operations.
