FHFL Says Poor Housing Data Is Undermining Nigeria’s Affordable Housing Plans

FHFL Says Poor Housing Data Is Undermining Nigeria’s Affordable Housing Plans

Family Homes Funds Limited says Nigeria’s housing plans are being held back by the lack of reliable and well-organised data. Speaking at a stakeholder validation workshop for the National Housing Data Programme in Abuja, an FHFL official said accurate data is essential for effective planning, policymaking and regulation. The proposed programme is expected to give government agencies, regulators and housing stakeholders better information to address housing shortages, improve oversight and expand access to affordable homes for low- and middle-income Nigerians.

I agree; reliable information on household needs and housing supply should guide plans before budgets are set.

It is hard to plan affordable housing properly when the underlying data is unreliable or scattered across different sources.

True, but better coordination may matter as much as perfect data. Can planning not improve while records are being strengthened?

Better data matters, but data alone will not make homes affordable unless the eventual plans are actually implemented.

The workshop should lead to clear standards for collecting, updating, and sharing housing data so planners can work from the same picture.
