Why Oyetola Should Take Responsibility for APC’s Osun Election Loss
I had earlier argued that Governor Ademola Adeleke was likely to win re-election, based on several political factors in Osun State. One major issue was the signal that Gboyega Oyetola might seek another governorship bid. This could have discouraged other serious APC contenders, including Ambode, from preparing early enough to challenge Adeleke. The EFCC's last-minute freezing of Osun State accounts was also a costly political mistake. The move raised questions about how it was approved and whether the Presidency was aware. Although the Federal Government later reversed it, Oyetola's silence before and after the election suggested the damage had already been done. This is not personal criticism of Oyetola. It is an assessment of the political decisions that may have contributed to the APC's loss in Osun State.
