Traders Shut Down Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Over Proposed Government Takeover
Traders at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex halted activities in protest against a planned takeover by state and local government authorities. They fear the change could bring new levies and taxes that would hurt their businesses and insist the facility remains under federal jurisdiction. Hundreds of shop owners, especially in the ASPANDA Market spare-parts section, locked up at dawn to press for further consultations before any management changes. They gathered in parks and garages within the complex, holding discussions and drawing attention to their demands. Industry, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole visited the site to meet with stakeholders. She urged traders to reopen the gates and pledged to support dialogue that would ensure the smooth resumption of business activities.
