Anti-Trafficking Group Warns Nigerians of Job Scams and Exploitation Abroad

The Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organisation has warned that more Nigerians are being lured abroad with false promises of jobs, only to face sexual exploitation, forced labour and ransom demands. The organisation said some victims are trapped in Libya, Egypt, Iraq and parts of West Africa. It alleged that victims of sexual exploitation are forced to repay debts of up to ₦4 million, while others are made to work for years before they can regain their freedom. Nigerians were urged to verify overseas job offers and use legal migration channels. The group also called on governments, communities and development partners to support rescue, rehabilitation and sustainable empowerment for survivors, warning that victims remain vulnerable to re-trafficking without livelihoods.
