Falana Urges Nigerians to Renew the Fight for Dignity and Accountable Government
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has called on Nigerians to defend their right to demand answers from those in power, saying the country’s independence was won through struggle and sacrifice. Speaking at a pre-independence lecture in Benin City, Falana praised Edo State’s contribution to the anti-colonial movement, citing figures such as Anthony Enahoro and labour leader Michael Imoudu. He said the Nigerian dream should mean access to quality education, decent jobs, security, opportunities for businesses and a life of dignity. Falana argued that young people should be able to build successful careers at home without being forced to leave the country in search of opportunities. He also urged citizens to challenge corruption, insecurity, unemployment and the political barriers that limit progress. The lecture examined what Nigerians should expect from leadership ahead of the 2027 elections and called for renewed commitment to justice, accountability and a better quality of life.
