Family Demands ₦500m From LASUTH Over Alleged Fatal Injection After Surgery

The family of 59-year-old Mrs Adegoke Mosekola Dorcas has demanded ₦500 million compensation from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, alleging negligence in the events leading to her death. Her lawyers said she underwent surgery to remove an adrenal gland in January 2024 and was later moved from the ICU to the surgical ward after her condition improved. They alleged that, while she was being prepared for discharge, a nurse administered vecuronium through an arterial line after it was presented to the family as an antibiotic. The family said she developed breathing difficulties, seizures and cardiac arrest shortly afterwards, resulting in a hypoxic brain injury. She died on January 24, 2024. The lawyers are also seeking an apology, hospital records and details of any internal investigation. LASUTH had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of the report. The claims have not been determined by a court.
