Pride Comes Before a Fall: A Call to Humility

I once had a close friend who was a brilliant judge, but pride was his weakness. Years ago, while travelling to Abuja, I saw him leaving the aircraft I was about to board. When I greeted him, he looked at me and asked, “Who is this?” I later learned that he had lost his memory and could no longer recognise even his children. Pride can destroy wisdom, position and relationships. Scripture teaches that Lucifer’s beauty and wisdom led him to exalt himself above God, and his pride brought about his downfall. When life becomes focused only on our achievements, abilities and desire for honour, pride may already be taking root. We must remember that God can lift a person up and bring them down. Everything we have is sustained by His mercy. Humility attracts grace, while pride brings resistance. The choice is ours: choose humility.
