Inside Akwa Ibom’s Planned Ibom Medical City and 350-Bed International Hospital
Akwa Ibom State is planning the Ibom Medical City in Uyo, a 100-hectare healthcare development expected to include a proposed 350-bed international hospital. The project plan includes specialised medical services, advanced surgery and diagnostics, pharmaceutical and life-sciences facilities, rehabilitation and wellness centres, elderly care, research and training facilities, and housing for medical professionals. The state says the core hospital facility is targeted for completion within 18 months under Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda. If delivered as planned, the project could strengthen specialist healthcare access and position Uyo as a medical-tourism destination in Nigeria and West Africa.
