Driver Arrested After Hit-and-Run Kills 27-Year-Old Bride-to-Be at Bus Stop
A 27-year-old bride-to-be was struck by a vehicle that mounted the sidewalk at a San Diego bus stop. She was waiting for the bus to her second job and planning her wedding when the driver hit her and sped away. Victims were rushed to a nearby hospital but she died from her injuries. Witnesses say the driver even reversed over her body before fleeing. The family found her phone at the scene and called relatives immediately. Police later arrested 41-year-old Assmaa Elayyat, a county official, on charges including vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. Elayyat has posted bond and is due in court June 1. Her family is devastated. “We want justice for Katie,” they say. They hope her name will live on and the driver will face full accountability.
