Foundation Supports 500 Traders Displaced by Afor Nnobi Market Demolition
The Hamilton and Thelma Ezeonu Foundation has provided relief materials and cash support to more than 500 traders displaced by the demolition of shops at Afor Nnobi Market in Idemili South, Anambra State. The demolition reportedly affected over 200 buildings and shops during road reconstruction and the expansion of the Afor Nnobi roundabout. The project is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly during festive periods. Beneficiaries, many of them elderly women, received bags of rice and financial assistance. The foundation said it would also set aside ₦10 million in grants and support for affected traders when a new market is completed and shops are allocated. Community members called for the construction of the replacement market to begin quickly so displaced traders can return to business.
