Sanwo-Olu Pledges AI Training, More Recruitment and Welfare Support for Lagos Teachers
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says public-school teachers must gain skills in technology, artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship to meet the changing demands of the classroom. Speaking at the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ikeja, the governor said the state would continue investing in teacher training, digital learning tools and improved school facilities. He said 4,353 teachers were recruited between 2023 and 2025, with another recruitment exercise approved for basic education schools. Sanwo-Olu also said the government had approved ₦102.5 million in housing loans for teachers and would consider concerns about retirement age and the restoration of the Teachers’ Merit Awards. The Nigeria Union of Teachers called for better school security, infrastructure, welfare and recognition for outstanding educators.
