How the Super Falcons Can Still Qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s Super Falcons lost their direct route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The four WAFCON semi-finalists qualify automatically for the World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria can still reach the tournament, but must now go through the African and inter-confederation play-offs. The Super Falcons must first win their African play-off match to become one of Africa’s two representatives in the global play-off tournament. There, 10 teams will compete for the final three places at the 32-team World Cup. Nigeria’s path is now more difficult, but qualification remains possible if the team can win both play-off stages.
