My Husband Hid His Brain Cancer Before We Married. Should I Leave?
I married my husband less than a year after we met. Months into our marriage, he revealed that he had previously been treated for a brain tumour and that it had returned. I feel betrayed because he never gave me the chance to understand what I was agreeing to before our wedding. Since his second surgery, I have become his main caregiver while also covering many of our daily expenses. His family pays for treatment, but the financial and emotional pressure on me has been overwhelming. He has also become controlling and harsh. He checks my phone, gets angry when I do not respond immediately and objected when I accepted rides to work from a colleague. I know he is dealing with a serious illness, but I am struggling to accept being treated this way. I am considering leaving after his chemotherapy ends, especially because I do not feel ready to have children or face another recurrence. Would leaving make me a terrible person, or is it time to protect my own wellbeing?
