DSS Arraigns Five Over Abduction of 20 Prospective Corps Members in Imo
The DSS has arraigned five suspects before an Owerri High Court over the October 1 abduction of 20 prospective NYSC members and another passenger in Imo State. The suspects were arrested during intelligence-led operations in Rivers and Abia states. The victims were travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom when armed men intercepted their vehicles near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area. They were rescued on October 7 during a security operation in Owerri West and received medical attention. Reports said the kidnappers demanded ransom, though the Imo police commissioner said he was not aware of any payment and attributed the release to pressure from security operatives. The court process is expected to determine the alleged roles of the accused, while security agencies continue to search for other suspects said to be at large.
