Silvestre Predicts Messi vs Ronaldo MLS Showdown, Not Teammates

Silvestre Predicts Messi vs Ronaldo MLS Showdown, Not Teammates — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre says Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would be better off on rival MLS sides rather than playing together. Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has led the club to major trophies and earned two MVP awards. He’s reunited with former Barcelona stars like Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suárez. At 41, Ronaldo is closing in on 1,000 career goals and still has one year left at Al-Nassr. Silvestre told a sports outlet that if Ronaldo heads to the U.S., facing Messi week in, week out would create a more exciting rivalry. “I think it would make more sense to have them on different teams and compete against each other,” he said. “It would be more attractive, more fun.”

Putting two generational talents on opposing teams sounds exciting, but it could also dilute the magic they each bring to the game.
