UNILAG’s Anti-Rape Safety Tips for Female Students Spark Debate
The University of Lagos Student Affairs Division has circulated campus safety tips for female students aimed at preventing sexual harassment and rape. The advisories urge students to be cautious around men, avoid isolated places, reject unwanted pressure, be careful with drinks and intoxicants, and seek counselling when needed. Some of the wording, including advice on dressing and handshakes, may prompt debate about victim-blaming and the university’s approach to sexual-violence prevention.
