Olu Jacobs: The Screen Legend Who Made Power Feel Effortless
Nigerian film is mourning Olu Jacobs, who has died at 84. For more than five decades, he brought rare authority to roles as chiefs, statesmen, fathers and formidable elders. His characters did not need to shout to command a room. Born in Kano, Jacobs found his calling after watching one of Hubert Ogunde’s concert parties. He later trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and built experience in British theatre and television before appearing in international films. That background shaped his clear diction, measured delivery and unforgettable screen presence. After returning home, he became a defining figure in Nollywood, from the NTA drama The Third Eye to more than a hundred films.
