Presidency Slams Atiku Over US Petition on Tinubu’s 1993 Case

The Presidency has condemned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for petitioning US leaders over a settled civil forfeiture case from 1993. In a statement, the presidential spokesman described the move as an affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty and a reckless political manoeuvre. The statement noted that the matter was resolved with no criminal conviction and argued that reviving it undermines the dignity of both the office of the president and the nation. It also highlighted Atiku’s past involvement in US investigations and claims of offshore dealings. Emphasising that Nigeria’s affairs should not be litigated abroad, the Presidency urged focus on domestic challenges and defended President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of economic stabilisation and security.
