Zverev Claims US Open Title, Says He Is World No. 1 ‘Right Now’
Alexander Zverev defeated American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 to win the 2026 US Open men’s singles title at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The German said the victory, which followed his French Open triumph earlier in the year, gives him a strong case to call himself the world’s best player at the moment. He ended the Grand Slam season with a 25-2 record. Zverev, however, acknowledged that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz could challenge that claim when fully fit. He said Sinner remains ahead when all the leading players are healthy and at their best.
