Lagos Pastor Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping Church Member’s Daughter

A Lagos State Special Offences Court has sentenced 63-year-old Pastor Chris Douglas to life imprisonment for raping a church member’s daughter. The court held he abused his position of spiritual authority and trust to exploit the victim over multiple occasions in a hotel. Justice Rahman Oshodi noted the victim suffered severe psychological trauma, including depression and recurring suicidal thoughts, as a direct consequence of the abuse. The conviction was based on testimony from five witnesses, medical evidence, and supporting documents. Douglas denied the allegations and claimed the relationship was consensual, but the judge ruled the defence of consent unsupportable. His name will also be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.
