What I Learned as a Teacher About Parents Confronting Their Kids’ Teachers
I taught a small primary five class and often saw parents dramatize issues based on their children’s exaggerated stories. Many of my pupils struggled with reading and maths. One girl couldn’t read at all, so I cut her break time, set daily drills, and gave extra lessons without charge. Gradually most improved, but she resisted one day and refused her assignment. When I warned her and caned her for repeatedly skipping work, her mother stormed the school, accusing me of unfair treatment. I calmly shared her daughter’s progress and test scores, and the mother saw the improvement for herself. My advice to parents: trust the teacher’s judgment and address concerns calmly. Meet, listen, explain your worries, and work together instead of confronting or blaming. That collaboration will help your child succeed.
