U.S. Marines Board and Seize Iranian Tanker Near Strait of Hormuz

Footage released by U.S. Central Command shows marines rappelling from a helicopter onto the Iranian-flagged cargo ship M/V Touska after its propulsion system was disabled. The guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance fired on the tanker’s engine room following six hours of warnings and non-compliance. Marines then departed the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli to secure the vessel. U.S. forces took full custody of the ship in the Gulf of Oman. President Trump later confirmed the operation, saying the crew refused orders and the Navy “blew a hole in the engine room.”
