FAAN Denies Causing Uber’s Exit From Nigeria
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has denied claims that its airport e-hailing rules forced Uber to leave Nigeria. FAAN spokesperson Henry Agbebire said Uber attributed its decision to a review of its business priorities and investment focus across Africa. He added that the company had stated its exit was unrelated to FAAN’s recent directive on ride-hailing operations at Nigerian airports. According to FAAN, the wider ride-hailing sector has faced longstanding concerns over regulation, driver welfare, passenger protection, data sharing and operational accountability. The authority said the key question is why Uber no longer considers Nigeria part of its investment priorities.
