Madagascar Coach: Super Eagles’ Quality and Depth Decided AFCON Qualifier

Madagascar coach Corentin Martins said his team found their 2-1 loss to the Super Eagles difficult to accept after taking an early lead in their opening 2027 AFCON qualifier. Nigeria turned the match around through goals from debutant George Ilenikhena before half-time and substitute Moses Usor in the 65th minute. Martins said Madagascar missed a chance to go 2-1 ahead before Nigeria took control. He attributed the result to Nigeria’s greater squad depth, experience in top-level matches and Madagascar’s drop in energy during the second half. He said his side would learn from the defeat ahead of their remaining qualifying games.
