When Matthias Was Chosen to Replace Judas (Acts 1:12-26)
After Jesus’ ascension, the eleven apostles returned to Jerusalem and met in prayer with the women, Mary, and Jesus’ brothers. Peter reminded them that Scripture must be fulfilled regarding Judas, whose betrayal led to his tragic end in the Field of Blood. The group recalled how Judas bought the field with the reward for his wickedness. To restore their number, they proposed two candidates—Joseph called Barsabbas and Matthias. They prayed for God’s guidance and cast lots. The lot fell to Matthias, who joined the eleven as a witness to Christ’s resurrection.
