From Conflict to Compassion: Hope for Plateau’s Religious Divide
Plateau State was once Nigeria’s “Home of Peace and Tourism.” Today, religious intolerance has torn communities apart and fueled suspicion between Christians and Muslims. Government promises ring hollow and offer no real comfort to victims. True change must come from ordinary people. In recent crises, a Christian man risked his life to hide a terrified Muslim neighbour. Muslim youths ushered elderly Christian women to safety. A Christian trader returned a lost sum of money to its Muslim owner. Even the late Imam Abdullahi Abubakar sheltered hundreds of Christians in his mosque. These acts of compassion show we can transcend faith and ethnicity. By choosing empathy over enmity, Plateau—and all of Nigeria—can rediscover peace and unity.
