Canal+ Finalises MultiChoice Acquisition, Boosting African Pay-TV on Global Stage

Canal+ Finalises MultiChoice Acquisition, Boosting African Pay-TV on Global Stage

Canal+ has formally integrated MultiChoice as a full subsidiary, marking a major milestone for Africa’s leading pay television operator. The move places MultiChoice within a global media group present in 70 countries. This integration gives the African business access to broader resources, expertise and international reach. MultiChoice will continue serving millions across sub-Saharan Africa through DStv and GOtv. The company expects the deal to strengthen its position in entertainment, sports and news services on the continent.

It's ambitious, but I'm not convinced that access to 70 markets alone guarantees better quality or more diverse programming for African audiences.

I see the deal as a buyout disguised as collaboration, no be real partnership if local teams lose decision-making power.
