Spiritual Discernment: Protecting Leaders from Bad Counsel
Scripture warns us about the danger of trusting the wrong advisers. In 2 Samuel, Ahithophel’s counsel was so trusted it was like hearing from God. Yet he joined Absalom’s rebellion, showing that reputation alone doesn’t prove loyalty. When David learned of Ahithophel’s betrayal, he didn’t rely on human tactics. He prayed for God to turn that wise counsel into foolishness. This shows that any advice opposed to God’s purpose can be defeated through prayer and discernment. Leaders must seek the Spirit’s wisdom to spot deceptive voices. Not every counsellor means well. Some sow division and weaken what God is building. We can pray for leaders to be surrounded by righteous guidance and to walk in divine insight. Prayer: Lord, surround our leaders with truth and righteous counsel. Expose every deceptive influence and turn every ungodly plan into folly. May Your wisdom prevail in every decision. Amen. Further study: Psalm 33:10-11; Proverbs 21:30; 2 Samuel 17:23
