Man Dies After Alleged Mob Attack in Lagos Island Weeks Before His Wedding
Basit Kolade reportedly died after he was attacked by a mob in the Patey area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, shortly after returning to Nigeria to prepare for his wedding. Residents said Kolade allegedly hit a pedestrian while driving on Freeman Street and was chased after reportedly failing to stop. He was said to have been beaten with sticks and bottles before becoming unconscious. He was taken to Lagos Island General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. Police have arrested four suspects and warned residents against mob action and other forms of self-help. His wedding was reportedly scheduled to hold in about two weeks.
