Chris Rock Says Divorce Settlement Cost Him His ‘Madagascar Money’

American comedian Chris Rock says his 2016 divorce settlement had a major impact on his finances, joking that he no longer has the money he earned from the Madagascar film franchise. In a recent interview, Rock appealed for another Madagascar sequel, describing the animated series as the biggest film project of his career. He voiced Marty the zebra in the three films, which collectively earned more than $2.2 billion worldwide. Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock separated in 2014 after 19 years of marriage and finalised their divorce in 2016. He previously referred to his comedy tour as the “alimony tour” while making jokes about the financial cost of divorce. Despite the setback, Rock has continued to tour globally and work on major entertainment projects, including his Netflix deal.
