Infantino Calls Emergency FIFA Meeting as Tournament Investment Plan Sparks Backlash

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has called an emergency meeting of senior officials in Rabat, Morocco, following a backlash over plans to bring private investment into a company that would manage FIFA tournaments. The proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise would have handled the commercial and operational side of major competitions. Plans to sell a 20% stake to private investors drew opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation. FIFA has since abandoned the proposal. Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said he was not involved in the plan and supported its withdrawal. UEFA and several national associations are reportedly seeking accountability from Infantino, with legal action and a possible governance boycott also under consideration. Infantino is still expected to have support from several African, South American and Oceanian associations. However, the position of Asian football bodies may prove decisive as pressure over FIFA's governance grows.
