NOUN Suspends Alumni Election, Executive Over Certificate Racketeering Allegations
The National Open University of Nigeria has suspended its Alumni Association’s activities, including the October 10, 2026 election, following petitions alleging certificate forgery, certificate racketeering and other irregularities. The suspension affects the association’s executive committees at national and state levels while the university investigates. NOUN said the allegations, which have not been proven, also raise concerns about whether some participants are genuine graduates and eligible to vote, contest or hold office. The university has halted all election-related processes and plans to set up an investigation committee. The alumni president has asked that the election continue, arguing through lawyers that the association has a separate legal status and that affected officers deserve fair hearing and due process.
