A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after a Ghanaian court convicted him of incest involving his 17-year-old daughter. The Lawra Circuit Court in Ghana’s Upper West Region heard that the abuse occurred repeatedly over an extended period. Investigators said he also threatened to kill the girl if she reported him. The court imposed an additional 10-year sentence for the death threat, to run concurrently with the incest sentence. It also directed the local Social Welfare Department to provide the survivor with counselling and psychosocial support.
