Nigerian Airlines Threatened by Soaring Jet A1 Prices
Fuel prices for Jet A1 have jumped across major hubs, ranging from about N2,690 to nearly N3,000 per litre. This surge is putting local carriers under severe financial strain. Captain Ado Sanusi, MD/CEO of Aero Contractors, warned that some airlines may halt operations if costs remain unchecked. He urged government regulators to ensure transparent pricing rather than force travellers to absorb the increases. Insiders from Air Peace and the Airline Operators of Nigeria confirm mounting losses. Although some carriers briefly raised fares, they quickly reversed hikes after seeing a drop in bookings. Industry experts expect prices to climb further before easing in the next two months. Meanwhile, average one-way tickets now range between N195,000 and N250,000.
