Video Emerges of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and Wife Held by Bandits
A new video circulating online shows retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife in captivity after their abduction along the Matazu road in Katsina State. They appear under duress, pleading for mercy and appealing for their release. Security sources say the footage is being used by the kidnappers—linked to a bandit leader known as “Kachalla Maha”—to press demands for a prisoner swap. Reports indicate the abductors want some of their associates freed in exchange for the couple. Their driver escaped with gunshot injuries and alerted authorities. The vehicle was later recovered and taken to a local police division. Neither the military nor the state police has officially commented on the video or the condition of the former director of Defence Information and his wife. Katsina remains a hotspot for kidnappings and armed attacks. This latest release raises fresh concerns about the safety of high-profile victims and the reach of bandit groups across northwestern forest corridors.
