WAHO Director-General Visits ECOWAS Disease Control Centre in Abuja

WAHO Director-General Professor Palokinam Pitche has visited the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control in Abuja to strengthen regional health security and emergency preparedness. The meeting reviewed the centre’s recent disease-surveillance work, operational challenges and ways to improve coordination during public health threats across ECOWAS member states. Pitche, who assumed office on September 1, 2026, said stronger collaboration within WAHO is essential for detecting, preventing and responding to emerging health emergencies in West Africa.
