Army Storms IPOB/ESN Camp in Imo, Recovers Bodies of Abducted Soldiers
Troops of the 82 Division, working with other security agencies, raided a suspected IPOB/ESN stronghold along the Ubaha Orsu axis in Imo State on April 24, 2026. The forces came under heavy fire but repelled the attackers and forced them to retreat. A detailed search uncovered shallow graves believed to hold the remains of Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew. The two soldiers were abducted and killed in May 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding. Their remains have been secured for forensic and DNA analysis, and authorities are liaising with the families to confirm identities and arrange dignified burials. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the South East and urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies.
