Exploring Eve’s Fall: Was Eden’s Transgression Sexual?
Some scholars propose that Eve’s sin in Eden involved more than eating fruit. They argue she was deceived and physically seduced by the serpent. From that union came Cain, then Adam and Eve bore Abel. The Bible describes the serpent as “more subtil than any beast” before the curse (Genesis 3:1). After the sin, God declares it will crawl on its belly (Genesis 3:14), implying a change of form. When Eve and Adam realized their nakedness, they sewed fig leaves (Genesis 3:7). If they’d only eaten fruit, covering their loins makes little sense. God’s punishment to Eve focuses on sorrow and conception (Genesis 3:16), directly linking the offence to childbearing.
