Ejiofor Urges New NBA Leadership to Enforce Equal Discipline and Improve Lawyers’ Welfare
Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has urged the new Nigerian Bar Association leadership to pursue institutional reform, equal discipline and improved welfare for lawyers. He said the NBA must apply professional rules fairly, without protecting influential lawyers while punishing junior or unpopular colleagues. He also called for judicial independence to be matched with transparency, efficiency and accountability. Ejiofor noted that many young lawyers face poor remuneration, rising practice costs and limited opportunities. He urged the association to make lawyers’ welfare a measurable policy priority. He added that lessons from logistical challenges at the NBA’s Port Harcourt conference should lead to better planning and stronger institutions ahead of future gatherings.
