EKSU Student Questions Laptop Distribution After Event Gives Out Rice and Branded Items
I attended an EKSU student empowerment event after hearing that laptops, money and bags would be distributed. I arrived after 11am for a programme scheduled to begin at 10am, and it eventually started around noon. A few minutes in, organisers announced that only selected nominees could receive laptops. Students had not been told that nominations or letters explaining their need for a computer would be required. I later learnt that attendees were given sachet water and rice, alongside branded shirts, caps, jotters and other materials. From what I saw, there appeared to be fewer than 50 laptops. I am not saying every student must receive a laptop. But if students are invited for a laptop-distribution programme, the laptops should be the main focus and the selection process should be made clear beforehand.
