Saudi Arabia Puts $2.5bn 2034 World Cup Stadium Plan on Hold
Saudi Arabia has reportedly put plans for a $2.5 billion stadium for the 2034 FIFA World Cup on hold. The proposed venue was to be built 350 metres above ground as part of NEOM's futuristic The Line project. The move follows reports that NEOM is being scaled back after delays and rising costs. The stadium was one of 15 venues planned across five Saudi cities for the tournament. Other major projects and entertainment events, including the Mukaab development, the Joy Awards, the Red Sea International Film Festival and Soundstorm, have also reportedly faced cancellations or delays as the kingdom seeks to reduce spending.
