LAWMA Sacks Sweepers and Supervisors Over Illegal Waste Dumping in Lagos
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has disengaged street sweepers, their supervisors and the service provider responsible for cleaning operations around the Oworonshoki-Berger axis. LAWMA said surveillance and investigations found that some of the sweepers had allegedly dumped waste on the road median, a recurring blackspot. The agency said those involved confessed during its investigation. Enforcement officers also arrested two suspected illegal waste dumpers in the area. They were taken to the Oshodi Task Force Mobile Court for investigation and possible prosecution under Lagos environmental laws. LAWMA said it will sustain surveillance at waste hotspots and urged residents, businesses and collectors to use approved disposal channels and registered PSP operators.
