At 36, I Enjoy My Peace but I’m Starting to Feel Lonely
I am 36 and single, and for a long time I was comfortable with it. I do ask women out, but I find constant communication and the demands of a relationship stressful. My life is highly structured, and making room for someone else has never come easily to me. Money also worries me. I earn ₦200,000 monthly before tax, with no side hustle, and I wonder how I am expected to build a stable life as I approach 40. I have even lied about having a partner and children just to avoid questions, but that has only added to the pressure I already feel. Although I do not drink, smoke, party or womanise, I have struggled to maintain close friendships and relationships. I can go a whole month without a personal phone call. I may look fine at work, but I am beginning to miss having someone to share life with. Are there other men in their 30s who have become so used to being alone that letting someone in feels difficult? How do you balance your peace, finances, friendships and the desire for companionship?
