Premier League: How England’s Top Football Division Works
The Premier League was founded in 1992 after England’s leading clubs broke away from the Football League. The competition has 20 clubs, with each club holding an equal share in the league. Every season, the bottom three teams are relegated to the Championship. They are replaced by the three promoted clubs from that division. Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are among the league’s most famous teams. The Premier League is also widely followed in Nigeria and around the world.
