Rest Before You Burn Out: Lessons From Elijah

Elijah’s victories in 1 Kings 18 came after intense prayer, from calling down fire to praying for rain after years of drought. He then ran ahead of King Ahab’s chariot, leaving him physically and spiritually exhausted. When Jezebel threatened his life, Elijah fled without taking time to recover. Under the juniper tree, he became so weak that he asked God to take his life. Instead, God allowed him to sleep and sent an angel to give him food and strength for the journey ahead. Even God rested after creation. We should not move from one demanding task to another without pausing to recover. Rest is not weakness; it helps us preserve our strength for the race ahead.
