WHO Supplies Bauchi Cholera Centres as Outbreak Reaches 1,564 Suspected Cases
The World Health Organization has donated medical supplies to support Bauchi State’s response to a cholera outbreak that has recorded 1,564 suspected cases and 29 deaths across 19 LGAs as of October 9. The supplies include Ringer’s lactate, IV fluids, oral rehydration salts, giving sets and infection-prevention materials. They were distributed to priority treatment facilities and are expected to support the treatment of about 250 patients while protecting frontline health workers. WHO also provided on-the-job training for 22 health workers at three cholera treatment facilities. Another 19 surveillance focal persons received training to improve outbreak detection and response. The outbreak was declared on August 1, 2026. WHO says it is supporting health authorities and partners across seven affected states with surveillance, treatment, infection prevention, risk communication and coordination.
