Ifeanyi Ejiofor Condemns Delta Police Over Efurun Killing, Praises IGP’s Swift Intervention
Human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor has condemned the extrajudicial killing in Efurun, Delta State, by a police officer. He warns that normalising such killings represents a moral catastrophe and security failure. Ejiofor applauded the prompt response of Inspector-General Tunji Rilwan Disu, calling it a rare sign of institutional responsibility. He urged transparent investigations, public accountability and urgent reforms to enforce a zero-tolerance stance on unlawful use of force. Highlighting recent incidents in Asaba and Abuja, including the alleged killing of an NYSC member, he decried the culture of denial and impunity. Ejiofor also called on the Defence Minister and Chief of Defence Staff to address poor welfare and oversight within the security forces. He warned that unchecked extrajudicial executions erode public trust, undermine the rule of law and risk dragging Nigeria into cycles of violence.
