Gbajabiamila Gives Adeyemi 72 Hours to Retract or Face ₦10bn Defamation Suit

Gbajabiamila Gives Adeyemi 72 Hours to Retract or Face ₦10bn Defamation Suit

Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Gbajabiamila, has warned Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew to retract false allegations or face legal action. His solicitors issued a cease-and-desist letter in July 2026, accusing Adeyemi of making malicious claims of corruption, misuse of office and even murder without any evidence. The letter demands a full retraction, public apology and removal of all related publications within 72 hours. Failure to comply will lead to criminal proceedings and a civil suit seeking ₦10 billion in damages, along with a perpetual injunction against further defamation.

Do you think Gbajabiamila's 72-hour deadline for Adeyemi to retract allegations is fair, or might this escalate political tensions further?

The 72-hour window is quite strict, and it risks fuelling more political tension than resolving anything.

It's interesting that Gbajabiamila waited until after a July 2026 cease-and-desist letter before threatening a ₦10bn lawsuit this week.

Rushing a retraction under legal threat may pressure Adeyemi, but is a court battle really the best way to handle public corruption accusations?

To avoid costly litigation, both parties should consider a mediated dialogue session before the deadline lapses, preserving reputations and public trust.
