Presidential Adviser Calls for Death Penalty for Counterfeit Producers After Aba Factory Raid
A presidential adviser has called for the death penalty for people who manufacture counterfeit products, following the discovery of a suspected illegal alcohol factory in Aba, Abia State. NAFDAC said its operatives found the facility after receiving intelligence. The suspected operator reportedly fled, leaving behind bottles, branded packaging materials, sealing equipment, ethanol, liquid mixtures and other items allegedly used to produce fake alcoholic drinks. The agency said the operation was carried out in unhygienic conditions and estimated the value of equipment and materials recovered at more than ₦500 million. The call for capital punishment is a personal demand for tougher penalties, not a new Federal Government policy or a change in the law.
